Ather Energy has launched the Gen 3 450X and 450 Plus in India at Rs 1,57,507 and Rs 1,35,996 (ex-showroom India including state subsidy) respectively. The updated 450X packs a bunch of upgrades over the outgoing model, and we’re here to explain what they are.

The updated 450X packs a larger 3.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack, as opposed to the older 2.9kWh unit. This helps the new model offer a claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of 146km, 30km more than the previous model. The true range of the e-scooter has also significantly increased in the Ride and Eco modes. Check the figures below:

The updated range makes it a slightly more wholesome product that also brings a better fight to its rivals. With the bigger battery pack, the 0-80 percent charging time has increased to 4 hours 30 mins (3 hours 35 minutes on the older model). The bigger battery pack also means a slightly heavier scooter.

Moving to features, the Gen 3 Ather 450X gets 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM for a faster UI and toggling through the apps. The previous gen got 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. The e-scooter also features redesigned rearview mirrors, offering better peripheral vision.

Now to the hardware bit. The Gen 3 rolls on new 12-inch wheels, with a comparatively fatter  100/80-section rear unit with a rounded profile. However, the front remains the same size at 90/90. Adding to that are 18- and 16-litre optional accessory bags that can be mounted at the rear and on the apron.

Lastly, the Gen 3 Ather 450X commands a premium of Rs 5,106 over the outgoing model.
