The EV manufacturer is trying to match up to rivals like the Ola, Chetak and more

Ather Energy may set up a third manufacturing facility in India, say reports online. The EV manufacturer is already in talks with the Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Telangana state governments for a 100-acre plot of land for the new production facility, which will produce a claimed 15 lakh units of the Ather 450X per year. Ather is said to finalise the location by next month.

At present, Ather has one fully functioning production plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu which has the capability of producing 1.2 lakh units per year. The company’s second manufacturing plant (also in Hosur) is expected to start functioning later this year, with the production capacity to ramp up to 4 lakh units a year.

Ather’s recent fundraising of Rs 990 crore from National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited’s (NIIFL) Strategic Opportunities Fund and Hero MotoCorp should aid its production expansion. Along with that, the EV maker will also be expanding its sales network along with a fast-charging grid.

Ather Energy recorded the highest ever monthly sales of their 450X and 450 Plus scooters in April 2022. Check out the details here. Now, the new expansion plans should help Ather compete more aggressively with other EV manufacturers like Ola, Chetak and TVS. In that regard, Bajaj recently launched a new production facility in Akurdi with a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year. And Ola Electric, too, has stepped up production of the S1 Pro e-scooter to 1,000 units per day.
