The BMW iX1 is teased on the carmaker’s Instagram handle
It is an all-electric version of the X1 SUV
iX1 feature similar design cues to its ICE sibling with EV-specific details
The electric SUV is offered in two variants globally and has WLTP-claimed range of up to 475km
India launch expected by October of this year
German luxury carmaker BMW has teased the iX1 in India on their official social media handles. The model was globally unveiled back in June 2022 and will be one of the most affordable electric Bimmers on our shores. The iX1 is an all-electric version of the X1 SUV, which was launched earlier this year in our market.
The iX1 shares a similar design with its ICE sibling on the outside but sets itself apart with a revised front grille and subtle blue accents on the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side sills. Bits such as the LED headlights and sleek LED taillights would be carried forward from the X1.
Inside, the cabin of iX1 features an integrated 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.7-inch infotainment system running on BMW's latest iDrive 8 operating system. It also offers a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and electrically adjustable front seats with memory and massage functions.

Globally, the iX1 is offered in two variants: the eDrive20, and the xDrive30, both equipped with a 64.8kWh battery pack. The xDrive30 variant boasts an all-wheel-drive dual-electric motor setup, delivering 313PS and 494Nm. On the other hand, the eDrive20 features a single electric motor and front-wheel-drive system, offering 204PS and 250Nm. BMW has not confirmed which powertrain Indian-spec model would get.
With a standard 11kW charger, it takes approximately 6.5 hours to achieve a full charge on the iX1. Alternatively, the fast 130kW DC charger can charge the electric SUV from 10 percent to 80 percent in 29 minutes.
The BMW iX1 will be the fourth all-electric offering after the iX, i4 and i7. It is expected to be launched in India by next month. It will likely be priced from around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be a direct rival to the Volvo XC40 Recharge, while being an alternative to the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
