BYD unveiled its first SUV and its second product, the Atto 3, for the Indian market. While we will have to wait for its price announcement till December, we have lowdown on its spec sheet and design language, which have been detailed through these 10 images:
The Atto 3 sports a fresh design language with minimalist styling full of EV-specific elements. The front end gets sleek crystal LED lights joined by a thick silver strip that houses the BYD wordmark right in the middle. There’s also an LED DRL strip that runs below the blanked-off grille.
In profile, the electric SUV can easily be mistaken for a sportier SUV with its sharp lines and the blacked-out wheel arches which are filled nicely with the 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The overall length of the car is 4.45 metres, larger than its immediate rivals.
At the rear, the SUV gets connected LED tail lamps that run the width of the boot. You get black elements at the rear bumper, finished off with a clean design for the diffuser.

The BYD Atto 3 can be specced in four colours: Ski White, Parkour Red, Boulder Grey, and Surf Blue.
The Chinese marque has taken a completely different approach to the cabin with quirky design and elements all around. It has a dual-tone theme with a layered dashboard that looks like it's been derived from a concept car.
There are a host of eccentric elements inside the Atto 3, including the funky air-con outlets, the protruding door handles, the rotating 12.3-inch infotainment system, and the gear lever on the central console which is reminiscent of an aircraft’s throttle levers... a cool touch. Even the armrests have a quirky bent wrench-like look to them.
Being a premium offering, BYD has packed the SUV with a host of creature comforts, including powered front seats, auto climate control, a PM2.5 air filter, wireless phone charging, Android Auto and AppleCarplay, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and keyless entry. It also gets the vehicle-to-load function which transforms the vehicle into a portable power bank for powering certain appliances.

Equipment like seven airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, an electronic stability programme (ESP), and a host of ADAS tech, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind spot monitoring ensure the safety of the passengers inside.
The India-spec Atto 3 gets a single 60kWh battery pack that feeds charge to an electric motor with an output of 204PS and 310Nm, helping it boast an ARAI-claimed range of 521km (100 percent -five percent charge). Fast charging compatibility allows for a zero to 80 percent charge time of 50 minutes when using an 80kW fast charger. The 7kW AC charger requires nearly 10 hours of plug-in time to juice up the battery.
Pricing for the Atto 3 has been kept under wraps until December but being a CKD unit, we expect it to be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings are underway for a sum of Rs 50,000, while deliveries are scheduled for January next year. BYD’s electric SUV will square off as a premium alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
