BYD Auto confirms Seal EV launch date for March 5, 2024.
Expected to be priced around Rs 50 lakh.
Will rival the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
Chinese automaker BYD Auto is set to expand its portfolio in India with the introduction of the Seal all-electric sedan. The carmaker has confirmed its launch for March 5, 2024 and will join BYD's existing lineup in India, which includes the Atto 3 SUV and E6 MPV.
The Seal EV features a clean exterior design, highlighted by large LED headlights and distinctive C-shaped DRLs at the front. Its low-slung profile, complemented by stylish five-split spoke alloy wheels, enhances its overall appeal. At the rear, connected LED taillights with a fish scale pattern add a touch of elegance. Inside, the Seal sedan gets a minimalistic cabin with plenty of swoops and curves. It does look plush, but it’s safe to say that it isn’t as quirky as the Atto 3, details of which you can find here. The Seal sedan comes equipped with a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display along with features such as a panoramic glass roof and driver-assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
Globally, the Seal EV is offered with an 82.5 kWh battery pack with a choice of either a rear-wheel-driven single electric motor or an all-wheel-drive dual electric motor setup. The former produces 313 PS/ 360 Nm with a claimed range of up to 570 km (overall combined range), while the latter delivers 530 PS/ 670 Nm with a claimed range of 520 km (overall combined range). The powertrain specifications of the India-spec Seal have not been disclosed yet.
The BYD Seal, likely to be a fully imported model, could be priced in the around Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) price range depending on which powertrain the carmaker plans to bring here. It will competing with models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV and Kia EV6.
