Pre-launch bookings have been open for more than a couple of weeks now

  • Citroen eC3 likely to launch around mid-February.

  • Packs a 29.2kWh battery; good for an ARAI-claimed range of 320km.

  • Gets two trim options: Live and Feel.

  • Features and styling are similar to the ICE-powered model.

  • Likely to be priced from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Citroen’s first electric offering in the country, the eC3, is closer to a launch than ever. In fact, according to dealer sources, the electric hatchback could be launched in the coming days, sometime around mid-February. Pre-launch bookings had been opened in the second half of January.

The eC3 is very hard to differentiate from its ICE sibling because there aren't actually any unique styling elements between the two like the Tiago and Tiago EV. Only the white hue for the cladding elements, a roof, and fog lamps help identify it as an electric derivative. Even the two trim levels offered are exactly similar to their petrol counterparts: Live and Feel.

Naturally, it comes with the same set of features, which include equipment such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, remote locking, manual AC, dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

The biggest and probably the only difference between the two is under the hood. Citroen’s electric hatchback gets its juice from an air-cooled 29.2kWh battery pack, which feeds the 57PS/143Nm electric motor. Power is delivered to the front wheels only and it maxes out at 107kmph. The setup has an ARAI-claimed range of 320km. And to see how quick it is from nought to 100kmph, check out this story

The Citroen eC3’s pricing is likely to carry a premium over the ICE model and could be priced from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Its chief rival at launch would be the Tata Tiago EV; however, it’ll also take on the Punch EV later this year.
