In an exclusive interaction with Tork Motors CEO Kapil Shelke, we got to know some interesting details on the soon-to-be-launched affordable Tork electric bikes

Affordable Tork E Bike Launch Soon

We got to interact with Tork Motors CEO Kapil Shelke, and he revealed the company is working on not one but three electric bikes based on the Tork Kratos platform. Two of them will be more affordable than the current Tork Kratos R, which retails at Rs 1,87,499 (ex-showroom Pune, including FAME 2 subsidy).

Kapil said, “I think, a very fair-market-value electric motorcycle for commuters is what we think should be there. So we’ll build at least three products on the same platform ranging at various price points.” Kapil added the company is working on E-bikes that can do regular commutes in style.

Speaking about the launch timeline, he also revealed, “So we had a timeline for a more expensive product, but then (are) we sort of not looking at it (at the moment). Now we’re looking at the more affordable versions of the product. They will come, let’s say Q3-Q4 (early 2024) of this financial year.” It’s likely that he was referring to the Tork Kratos X when he spoke about the more expensive product. He also added that the timeline depends on a lot of factors involved, including ARAI testing. “But as soon as possible, we want to get two new products,” Kapil added.

Kapil also said, “We had the Kratos, which was already there, which was Rs 50,000 lower, so I think that’s the plan. To bring back the Kratos.”

While the base Kratos was discontinued in March 2023, the sudden revision of the FAME 2 subsidy made all compliant EVs much more expensive. This caused a knee-jerk reaction in terms of sales, so in a bid to make the Kratos a bit more accessible, the company recently launched the ‘Urban’ trim of the Kratos R at Rs 1,67,499 (ex-showroom Pune, including FAME 2 subsidy), making it Rs 20,000 more affordable than the regular R variant. You can read more about it in our report here

Expect the first of the upcoming Tork electric bikes to be priced at around Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite being an affordable commuter, Tork will most likely not compromise on range, but rather other aspects including raw performance as well as smart features. Expect it to offer performance equivalent to a 125cc motorcycle, and at least a 100km claimed range. It will rival the Revolt RV 400, Oben Rorr and Hop Oxo.
