BYD is set to expand its portfolio in India with the launch of the Seal electric sedan on March 5. Ahead of its launch, the carmaker has opened the order books, which can reserve a unit for you for an amount of Rs 1 lakh. Deliveries are expected to begin in April and we have managed to exclusively source the India-spec model’s variants and powertrain details for it ahead of its official reveal. Here’s a look at the same:]

The BYD Seal’s three trims are Dynamic Range, Premium Range and Performance. The smaller 61.4kWh battery is offered with the Dynamic Range, while the bigger battery is offered with the other two trims.

This brings us to the technical specifications. The BYD Seal will get both, the 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh, battery options in India. The latter will be available with either a 313 PS/ 360 Nm rear-wheel-drive single electric motor (Premium Range) or a 530 PS/ 670 Nm all-wheel-drive dual electric motor setup (Performance). The rear-wheel-drive powertrain has a WLTC-claimed range of up to 570 km , while the all-wheel-drive setup has a WLTC-claimed range of 520 km (both overall combined range).

The smaller 61.4kWh variant is paired with a 204 PS/310 Nm and has a WLTP-claimed range of 460km. This battery has a charging capacity of up to 110 kW, while the bigger 82.5 kWh battery can be charged using a 150 kW DC fast charger.

The Seal will be the third model for BYD in India after the E6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV, and the first sedan body style from the Chinese carmaker. Just like the latter, it boasts a quirky interior design with a host of features, including a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display.

The exterior is chic too, with a clean design made up of large LED headlights and C-shaped DRLs at the front. The aero-style five-split spoke alloy wheels look like they belong on a supercar and the rear looks the most aggressive with side vents and a faux diffuser-like trim element on the bumper. Considering that the BYD Seal will likely be a fully imported unit, it could be priced around the Rs 55 lakh to Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom) price range. The price is also largely trim-dependent, so stay tuned for more details which will surface on March 5. It will rival other electric models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV and Kia EV6. The BMW i4 will likely be a premium alternative.
