We recently got to catch up with Pritesh Mahajan, Co-founder, CEO of Revamp Moto. For the uninitiated, Revamp Moto was featured in Season 1 of Shark Tank India, where it raised Rs 1 crore funding. In our interaction, he revealed crucial details about the Revamp RM Mitra electric moped ahead of its launch. Here are the top three things to know about the EV:
Pritesh revealed that plans are to launch the Revamp RM Mitra in August this year. While he didn’t divulge details on the exact pricing of the EV, he stated that the e-moped will be priced from under Rs 1 lakh after FAME II and State subsidies are applied. Yes, the Mitra will be eligible for subsidies. The company plans to start deliveries of the Mitra in the same month, but only in the B2B space. Pritesh says deliveries for B2C consumers will take a little time as the company wants to work with its B2B clients first, understand their requirements better, optimise and apply the learnings in the iteration meant for B2C customers.
Revamp Moto will offer the RM Mitra in two variants: Lite and standard. While the former costs under a lakh rupees, Pritesh said the latter will command a premium of around Rs 25,000-Rs 30,000 over the Lite variant. Pritesh said the launch timeline of the standard variant will be a couple of months after the Lite hits the market.
The Lite version will come with a 3kWh fixed battery pack offering a claimed “true range” of 100-110km. It will be linked to a 2kW (continuous power) motor producing a peak power of 4.5kW and the moped’s claimed top speed will be 50-55kmph. This variant will have a 160-odd kg payload capacity.
On the other hand, the standard variant will come with a bigger 3.8kWh swappable battery pack, providing a 140-145km claimed “true range”. This variant will also have a higher claimed top speed of 65-70kmph, and a payload capacity of around 250kg.
That said, both variants will be similar in terms of design and features. The company also says it has designed the chassis to be rugged and that it can handle overloading as well. Revamp Moto developed this e-moped after making 10 iterations of the chassis and finalising one that can pass multiple validations and tests. Of course, the e-moped will come with smartphone connectivity that will enable live tracking, geo-fencing, remote lock/unlock, preventive maintenance alert, among others.
The two e-mopeds will also have in-house designed accessories for a host of business needs. The simple accessories such as luggage racks and other practicality-enhancing parts will cost from around Rs 2,000 till Rs 5,000, and will come with a six-month warranty. On the other hand, Revamp will also offer electromechanical accessories such as cooling/ heating box, which will come with a one-year warranty. They will draw power from the battery and will be priced relatively higher compared to non-powered ones. There will be two outlets: 220V and 12V for varying needs.
The company aims to sell around 15,000 units of the Mitra in FY 2023-2024, and going by its claimed specifications, it looks quite promising as an eco-friendly alternative to the TVS XL100, which currently rules the roost when it comes to moped workhorses.
