Pune-based Tork Motors has been working on an electric dirt bike, one we have managed to get an up close look at. But before you get all hyped up, we have to burst your bubble, as this is just a hobby project for the EV maker at the moment, and is still working on the feasibility of this product.
This prototype was spotted at the Pune Off-road Expedition 2022 and sported serious kit. For starters, the bodywork seems to be from a Honda CRF series dirt bike, while the front suspension, wheel, and braking setup is from the Hero XPulse 200 4V Rally kit. Furthermore, Tork has used the rear wheel from a Hero Impulse with the hub modified to handle the instantaneous torque of the electric motor.
For reference, the axial flux motor produces 38Nm on the Tork Kratos R variant and 28Nm on the standard while the rated power is 4.5kW and 4kW respectively. Even the frame, swingarm and the battery pack is straight from the Kratos. However, the team has used a billet machined triple clamp on the prototype.
Tork Motors currently has no plans of putting this bike into production, and will work on the feasibility of the project once the new Pune facility is completed. While the idea of an electric dirt bike in India seems a bit far-fetched, Barrel Motors too is working on something similar, so it may not be long before our market gets one.
In related news, the EV startup has introduced Pit Crew – a doorstep sales and service solution with purpose-built vans. This service will be available in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad by the end of this financial year.
