Offers a maximum WLTP range of up to 507 km
Dual-motor setup makes 503 PS and 725 Nm with 0-100 kmph coming in 3.2 seconds
Expected to be priced from around Rs 75 lakh to Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom)
MG has set the stage to introduce its electric sports car, the Cyberster roadster, in India in January 2025. The two-door drop-top was first showcased as a concept car at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2021 and was even showcased in the Indian market. Notably, the India-spec model is likely to be a completely built unit (CBU).
It is to be noted that MG will be opening its premium showrooms, called MG Select, across India, where it will retail its high-end luxury offerings, such as the Cyberster, likely to be the first model to be sold there.
MG has a rich history of offering stunning sports cars, such as the MG C-type and MG B GT. In fact, the MGC GTS Sebring has recorded MG’s highest-ever factory wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1968.
More to the point, the new Cyberster convertible draws inspiration from the iconic MG models from the past. It boasts a striking design language, and has a low-slung character – typical of a sports car. One of the noticeable design features include the rear arrow-pattern taillights.
On the inside, the open-top has an upmarket cabin with an array of screens. Speaking of which, there are three displays (comprising a digital driver’s display, touchscreen infotainment system, and vehicle stats) housed in a single panel, while another fourth screen, with a vertical orientation, sits below the central air-con vent for the climate control and other functions. The cabin also comes with a mix of touch capacitive and physical buttons throughout.
In the UK, the Cyberster convertible is available in a single- and dual-motor setup paired with a 77 kWh battery pack with a WLTP range of 507 km and 443 km, respectively. The single motor version makes 340 PS and 475 Nm, while the dual-motor trim produces 503 PS and 725 Nm.
In terms of acceleration, the former goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 5 seconds, on the other hand, the top-of-the-line all-wheel drive reaches 100 kmph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds. They provide a top speed of 195 kmph and 200 kmph, respectively. It remains to be seen which version of the Cyberster is set to make it to our shores.
Expect MG’s Cyberster to come with a sticker price of around Rs 75 lakh to Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, there are no direct competitors to the MG Cyberster roadster in India, however, the closest rival will be the ICE-powered BMW Z4.
