Suzuki has officially revealed its first electric offering, and it will be called e-Burgman, based on the Burgman 125 Street maxi-style scooter. While the e-scooter has been officially announced just now, we spied the test mule of the EV in India in early 2021.
A pilot run program for the e-Burgman will be carried out in Tokyo, Japan from April to June 2023, to test the e-scooter for production. Unlike the earlier patent drawings that feature fixed battery packs, the upcoming e-scooter will be making use of Honda Mobile Power Pack e swappable battery.
This same battery pack is used in Gachaho, a battery sharing consortium created by four major Japanese auto manufacturers - Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. That means, the upcoming electric two-wheelers from Yamaha and Kawasaki, too, will use Honda’s swappable battery pack.
The Suzuki e-Burgman’s specifications are also revealed. It will be powered by an AC synchronous motor producing 4kW peak power and 18Nm torque. It also claims a 44km of range when cruising at 60kmph, which isn’t a lot, but that is where the swappable battery stations come in place. It will feature a seat height of 780mm, and weighs quite heavy at 147kg.
On that note, Honda revealed a new platform called Platform e, with swappable and fixed battery packs, and EVs built on this platform will debut in 2024.
Taking that into consideration, it is safe to say that the e-Burgman will debut some time in 2024, and by the time, Honda would’ve launched two of its electric two-wheelers, including the Activa Electric.
