Today, Hyundai India has announced that it has partnered with Shell India for the installation of fast chargers across its EV dealerships. The Memorandum of Association (MoA) has been signed by Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director, Hyundai Motor India Limited and Sanjay Varkey, Director, Shell India Markets Private Limited, at the carmaker’s headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana.
Under this latest association, the carmaker will be installing Shell’s 60kW DC fast chargers across its 36 EV dealerships. And if feasible, Shell will also consider installing its 120kW DC fast chargers instead of the 60kW ones so you can top up your EV even faster. The main objective of this development is to improve the EV infrastructure across the country.
Currently, Hyundai has 72 EV dealerships across 45 cities in the country. Phase 1 of its fast-charging network has been concluded in the past and the latest tie up with Shell is the second phase to expand its charging network in India. Plus, the carmaker will be investing around Rs 20,000 crore for the development of EVs and expansion in India, which you can read here.
Recently, we also sampled Shell’s 120kW DC fast charger with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and found the experience rather smooth and straightforward. With the Ioniq 5 supporting charging speeds up to 350kW, a 120kW DC fast charger meant it topped up quite rapidly. To see how much time the Ioniq 5 took from topping up from 22 to 95 percent, check out this reel by Nabeel Khan on our sister portal, CarDekho:
