Hyundai’s new generation EV, the Ioniq 5, has been launched in India. The carmaker’s second electric offering for India was unveiled in December, here, and the prices for this futuristic-looking car have been announced at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. It’s offered in the country in a single, fully loaded variant.
Model |
Ex-showroom Price |
Ioniq 5 Long range RWD |
Rs 44.95 lakh |
Kia EV6 GT Line (RWD) |
Rs 60.95 lakh |
Despite the Ioniq 5 sharing bases with the EV6, the posh Hyundai still manages to undercut the RWD Kia EV6 by Rs 16 lakh, while offering similar features. That’s because the Hyundai EV is locally assembled, while the Kia EV6 is a full import.
The India-spec Ioniq 5 houses a 72.6kWh battery pack paired with a 217PS motor driving the rear wheels. Hyundai claims the Ioniq 5 boasts an ARAI-claimed range of 631km and does the nought to 100kmph sprint in 7.6 seconds. Internationally, there are options with smaller battery packs and even all-wheel drive as well.
The Ioniq 5 supports DC fast-charging (up to 350kW) and can juice up its battery from nought to 80 per cent in 18 minutes. Since a charger capable of this output is scarce in India, you can charge the Ioniq 5 from zero to 80 per cent in an hour using a 50kW DC fast-charger.
It comes with dual 12.3-inch integrated displays (touchscreen infotainment and driver’s display), a panoramic glass roof, ventilated and heated front seats, Bose sound system, powered tailgate, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and ambient lighting.
Also, the carmaker has used eco-friendly materials for the Ioniq 5 which includes bio plant for the steering wheel and door panels, eco-friendly leather and eco-friendly fabric for the upholstery
On the safety front, the Hyundai EV offers six airbags, electric parking brake (EPB) and electronic stability control. It also packs Level 2 ADAS functions including forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning and driver attention warning.

The Ioniq 5 is a direct rival to the Kia EV6 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge and can also be considered a premium alternative to the BYD Atto 3.
