Hyundai India has confirmed that the IONIQ 5 hatchback will be its next electric vehicle for our market and it will be launched in the second half of 2022. It’ll also be based on the Hyundai Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) like the upcoming Kia EV6, which is slated for an India launch around June.
The IONIQ 5 is the carmaker’s latest EV that has a more spacious interior when compared with a similarly sized conventional car. For instance, the central console, which can be slid back and forth, doesn’t extend all the way to the dashboard. Plus, the rear bench can be slid and reclined, so you can prioritize either rear legroom or boot space.
Shifting focus to the dashboard, the highlight here is the twin Mercedes-Benz-like screens comprising the touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver display. Plus, there’s a separate touch panel below the AC vents which can be used either for climate control or for hot keys dedicated to the infotainment system.

The IONIQ 5 is offered in two broad variants: Standard Range and Long Range. Both can be had with either single or dual motor options and get fast-charging technology. Further, they come with the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, wherein certain appliances can be powered by the car.
