The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has been globally revealed and is slated to go on sale in the Korean and US markets in early 2025. This three-row electric SUV will further expand Hyundai’s EV lineup, potentially arriving sometime on our shores as well. It is underpinned by the same E-GMP platform as found in its sibling Ioniq 5 and the newly launched Kia EV9.
The international-spec version of this all-electric SUV boasts a host of luxury features and a 110.3 kWh battery pack. It is offered in two trims, namely Long-range and Performance with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrain options. If you're drawn to this plush electric offering from Hyundai, we've outlined all its details in depth in this article:
The Hyundai Ioniq 9, unlike its sibling, the Ioniq 5, looks much more like a traditional SUV with a much boxier design and a more upright front fascia. Its EV-specific blanked-off grille is complemented by a sleek black strip above, housing a connected LED light bar. Instead of the usual H-shaped motifs seen in Hyundai's latest ICE models, the Ioniq 9 features straight-line LED headlights with pixel-shaped lighting elements.
In the silhouette, the SUV has a roofline sloping gently towards the rear, alongside silver roof-rails. It gets flush-type door handles and body-coloured ORVMs, which can be swapped for digital ORVMs if desired. It sits on standard 19-inch alloy wheels, with options for larger 20-inch or 21-inch wheels available.
At the rear, the Ioniq 9 features vertically-oriented LED taillights with pixel elements, seamlessly flowing into a high-mounted stop lamp, positioned at the top of the boot door. A black strip runs across the tailgate and extends to the side doors.
It has a long wheelbase of 3130 mm and 620 litres of bootspace with all three rows upright. The SUV’s overall dimensions are detailed in the table below.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be available in a total of 16 exterior colours including Celadon Gray, Ionosphere Green, Sunset Brown, Cosmic Blue, Abyss Black, Serenity White, Snow White, Cyber Gray, Atlas White, Ecotronic Gray, Nocturne Gray, Gravity Gold, Ultimate Red, and Biophilic Blue.
The Hyundai Ioniq 9’s cabin looks plush and futuristic to say the least. It offers a choice of one monotone and six dual-tone interior themes. These include Obsidian Black as a standalone shade and dual-tone options like Dark Pebble Gray, Obsidian Black, Dark Wine, and Dark Teal paired with Dove Gray, as well as Mud Gray and Cognac Brown paired with Creamy Beige.
The dashboard looks minimalist with slim air vents and ambient lighting that extends across the door panels. The cabin also includes a 4-spoke steering wheel, inspired by the Ioniq 5, with a silver finish on the lower spokes. The centre console features terrain and drive mode controls, along with two cupholders. It extends into a slidable front armrest, making it accessible and usable for 2nd row occupants as well.
The three-row, 6/7-seater layout has fully reclining and electrically adjustable front and second-row seats, both equipped with a massage function. The second-row captain seats are electrically adjustable and can swivel 180 degrees to face the third row when the car is stationary, offering a lounge-like experience. The leatherette seats are complemented by adjustable headrests on all rows. The second-row captain seats also come with a boss mode for extra legroom and comfort.
The SUV is feature loaded to the brim including dual 12-inch curved screens for infotainment and digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, multi-colour ambient lighting, V2L technology and a 8-speaker sound system as standard which can be swapped with a premium BOSE 14-speaker sound system.
Safety wise, it can have multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera as well as a level-2 ADAS system like the Ioniq 5, alongside other equipment such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear parking sensors.
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is offered in two trims, both of which are equipped with a 110.3 kWh battery pack. While the Long-range variant gets both RWD and AWD options, the Performance variant is limited to an AWD option. The detailed specifications are as follows:

The AWD variants of the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 200 kmph. With a 350 kW fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 24 minutes under optimal conditions. With the Long-range RWD trim, the Ioniq 9 gets a WLTP claimed range of 620 km.
The India launch of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 has not been confirmed. We reckon it can be introduced sometime later on our shores too and when done so it can take on the Kia EV9 which is priced at Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom).
