Here’s a closer look at what the G-Class Electric brings to the table:
The G-Class Electric retains the signature boxy silhouette that has made the G-Wagen a design icon. It flaunts classic round headlights, a blanked-off grille framed by LED strips, and the rugged, go-anywhere vibe you’d expect.
The SUV features 20-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in gloss black, aerodynamic air curtains, sturdy door handles, and a sidestep for convenience. At the rear, the flat tailgate stays true to the G-Wagen DNA, adding to the butch appeal.
Step inside the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric, and you’re welcomed into a cabin that masterfully combines rugged utility with luxurious elegance. The interior features open-pore walnut wood trim and soft Nappa leather accents, though there are customisation options to choose the colour and trims of your choice. Dominating the dashboard are dual 12.3-inch displays — one for the driver and another for infotainment — featuring EV-specific graphics that keep you connected and informed in style.
The design seamlessly balances the rugged heritage of the G-Wagen with a contemporary, tech-savvy vibe, making it a space where functionality meets opulence.
In terms of features, the G-Class Electric has to be loaded. A Burmester stereo system provides an immersive audio experience, while an ADAS suite enhances safety with advanced driver-assist systems. You also get a 360-degree camera for improved visibility, multi-colour ambient lighting to set the mood, and wireless phone charging for modern convenience.
To top it off, multiple airbags and other safety measures ensure that luxury doesn’t come at the expense of security. It’s an interior built to impress and protect, whether you’re cruising through the city or tackling uncharted terrains.
Under the hood — or rather, under the floor — lies a 116 kWh battery pack, powering quad-electric motors that churn out a whopping 587 PS and 1,164 Nm of torque. A lightning-quick 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds, a top speed of 180 kmph (electronically limited), and a WLTP-claimed range of 455 km on a single charge are what define the G-Class Electric.
True to its roots, the G-Class Electric is as capable off-road as it is on-road. The quad-motor setup not only enables precise power delivery to each wheel but also allows the SUV to perform a jaw-dropping 360-degree tank turn, making tight manoeuvres look effortless. With its legendary off-roading DNA intact, the EQG can tackle the toughest terrains without breaking a sweat.
Charging is just as seamless, with options for both 11 kW AC charging and 200 kW DC fast charging, ensuring the EQG is ready to roll at a moment’s notice. Whether it's blazing down highways or navigating uncharted trails, the G-Class Electric is the perfect blend of electrifying performance and unyielding capability.
Priced at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom), the G-Class Electric doesn’t face direct competition in India yet. Globally, it stands against electric off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the upcoming Defender EV.
With this launch, Mercedes-Benz is taking its legendary G-Class into the future, offering luxury, off-road capability, and electric performance in one compelling package. What do you think about the icon going electric?
