Underpinned the modular MEB platform, same as existing ID models
Multiple battery options will boasts up 700km of WLTP-claimed range
The single electric motor puts out 286PS and 545Nm to the rear wheels only.
Launch in Europe and China by autumn 2023
700kms. That’s the headline figure making everyone go nuts over the new Volkswagen ID.7 that has just been unveiled globally. Being the flagship model, it sits at the top of the carmaker's global electric range, which includes the ID.5, ID.4 and the likes that sit below it. The ID.7 will be launched in Europe and China in 2023, with a launch in the North American market to follow in 2024.
The design of the ID.7 has been kept in-line with the ID. family styling. The nose sports a very similar styling to VW’s EV range, but because of its sedan bodystyle, it looks a lot sleeker and also sits a lot lower. The LED headlight unit is also slim and gets an integrated DRL horizontal bar which runs towards the VW emblem that sits at the centre of the grille.
The three quarter angle of the car reveals a rather prominent shoulder line which starts to gently rise while going to the rear. The dual-tone alloy wheels suit the car like a black tie on a white shirt and give it a sporty stance. The long wheelbase, the short overhangs, along with the sloping roofline help the car boast a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.23.
The sloping roofline bends into the boot, which looks rather truncated, and a thick black panel spans the width at the rear, housing the connected LED taillights, just like we’ve seen in the Taigun compact SUV.
Now Volkswagen didn’t reveal the deets on the ID.7’s multiple battery pack options, but the carmaker did say the biggest of the lot will boast a WLTP-claimed range of up to 700km. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via a 286PS electric motor delivering 545Nm. VW says the setup will have a charging capacity of up to 200kW. We expect more powertrain options, including all-wheel drive with dual motors, to be introduced down the line.
VW has taken a minimalist’s approach when it comes to the cabin, with parallel running horizontal lines dominating the dashboard along with the huge 15-inch touchscreen system, with dedicated touch controls on the screen for everyday functions. The digital instrument cluster is integrated seamlessly within two of the parallel lines on the dashboard and you get a tonne of creature comforts as well.
Some of them include a heads-up display, electronically dimmable panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon 14-speaker sound system, climate control, massaging for the front seats, connected car technology and ambient lighting.

The production of the ID.7 will take place in Germany as well as in China. It will be sold in the European, North American and the Chinese markets, but there is no news of it being launched in India. On a global stage, the VW ID.7 will take the fight to the likes of the Tesla Model 3, BMW i4, and Polestar 2.
