Incoming: 10 Honda Electric Two-wheelers Launch In The Next 5 Years

The second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the nation, Honda, is preparing an ambitious plan to launch 10 all-electric two-wheelers in the next five years, according to a report online. It’s reported that there’ll be a variety of body designs, speed categories, and powertrains available. There will also be fixed and swappable-batteried versions on sale.

Honda Motorcycle will be among the last major mainstream competitors to enter the EV market, with its first EV to be introduced in 2024. Nonetheless, the brand may be the first Japanese one to enter this nascent sector, one that’s being rapidly adopted to. The brand’s first EV, which will likely be the Activa Electric, will be here in March 2024. That’ll be followed by a second model in September 2024.

The work on two projects with the codenames GJNA and K4BA has already begun. One of them, the Activa Electric, could have a fixed battery structure. The other EV, will reportedly be a moped, with swappable batteries, which makes sense given its partnership with HP. The e-moped can have a big potential in the B2B space as having a swappable battery pack reduces its down time considerably. On the other hand, having a fixed battery pack in the Activa Electric is a good business move as Honda will be able to price it competitively as engineering a chassis with fixed battery is more cost-effective than one with removable batteries. Moreover, this possibility is also reinforced in Honda’s new patent filings that not only confirm the presence of a fixed battery pack, but also shows a unique motor construction.

What’s interesting is that Honda is targeting an ambitious 1-1.5 lakh units’ combined production of both the products in their first year itself. Honda has the resources and the engineering expertise, and we hope the brand is able to hit these numbers without any bottlenecks.
