[UPDATE: Ultraviolette has launched the F77 in India. Full details in our launch story]
Bengaluru-based startup Ultraviolette Automotive is all set to launch its sportbike, the F77 tomorrow. While it was introduced back in 2019, the Coronavirus pandemic delayed its production and launch. The brand then organised a test ride of its bike for members of the Indian aviation community, before eventually revealing more details of its updated iteration along with its launch date.
Not only that, the brand has even announced investments from Qualcomm Ventures and Lingotto, hence expanding its Series D funding round. The former is known for being a serial investor in 5G & Artificial Intelligence companies while the latter is an investment management company having controlling stakes in companies like Ferrari and The Economist Group. The company says that the undisclosed amount will be used for ramping up its presence in India, subsequent expansion in international markets, and strengthening its technological capabilities and prowess (read R&D department).
What the company also revealed, is that the F77 will boast of a massive 10.5kWh fixed battery pack, owing to which, its range has gone up to a whopping 307km (Indian Driving Cycle) in the top-spec variant. That’ll make it the highest-range-offering electric bike in India.

The F77’s performance, though, is likely to remain the same. The motor previously produced 25kW and churned out 90Nm at the motor, with a claimed top speed of 147kmph. The underpinnings too, will remain the same, though the chassis is heavily reworked. It’ll get an inverted fork and monoshock setup, with disc brakes at both ends. The bigger battery pack has resulted in a much heavier bike and the F77 is likely to tip the scales at about 190kg (kerb).
Once here, it'll be available in three variants: Airstrike, Shadow and Laser. While specific details for each variant are under wraps, the battery capacities and outputs could likely be different in each variant. All of this will come at a price though, and the Ultraviolette F77 will cost between Rs 3.5-4 lakh (ex-showroom), a fair bit more than what we expected it to. With that, it’ll slot above other e-bikes in India like the Oben Rorr, Revolt RV 400, Hop Oxo and Tork Kratos. The idea of India’s most powerful production electric bike coming our way is definitely exciting for us enthusiasts!
