The carmaker already offers plug-in hybrid versions of its SUVs overseas

Jeep will announce its plans to introduce fully electric vehicles (EVs) globally on September 8, a date that the carmaker has dubbed ‘4xe Day’.

Although it’s yet to debut its first all-electric SUV, Jeep does offer electrified (hybrid) versions of select models in overseas markets under the e-hybrid and 4xe brand identities.

Jeep’s first EV coming in 2023

Earlier this year, Jeep released render images of its first battery-electric vehicle. It seems to be a compact SUV similar in proportions to the Compass and Renegade and its production version is set to debut in early 2023.

Little is known about the EV apart from these images, but we reckon it could be based on the Stellantis STLA platform shared with electric vehicles from other carmakers under the parent company.

Magneto and Magneto 2.0 concept SUVs preview all-electric Wrangler

Jeep first introduced the Magneto concept SUV back in March 2021 in Moab, Utah, powered by a 285PS and 370Nm e-motor and four batteries with a total of 70kWh capacity. Interestingly, the Wrangler Rubicon-based open-air EV had a 6-speed manual transmission paired with the electric motor!

This year, Jeep brought a new Wrangler Magneto 2.0 concept SUV to Moab, based on a similar 800-volt electric architecture and 70kWh battery as the earlier concept. Except, it had a more powerful 625PS e-motor with a whopping 1156Nm of torque output. Moreover, the electric system was capable of providing its peak output of 600 Amperes for 10 seconds, at which the SUV could manage 0-97kmph in a supercar-quick 2 seconds!

Although the combination of an e-motor and manual transmission might sound zany, it’s similar to the existing Wrangler 4xe’s electric system that incorporates two e-motors, one paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission and the other with the SUV’s internal combustion engine.
