The past few years have given us plenty of new mass-market electric SUVs from multiple carmakers in India including the likes of Tata, Hyundai and Mahindra. However, there aren’t many three-row electric SUVs or MPVs yet! Kia is gearing up to enter the segment with the Carens EV MPV, by the second half of 2025. It will be launched along with the facelifted version of the Carens.
So if you are someone who likes recently introduced electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6, but have a large family and want something that can accommodate more than 5 people, you might want to consider waiting for the Carens EV.
Ahead of its expected launch by August, here’s everything you can expect from the electric MPV:
The styling of the Carens EV is expected to be similar to that of the facelifted Carens, but it will get some EV-specific design bits to set it apart from the ICE version. One can expect the styling elements to be sleek and sharp and in line with Kia’s modern design language. It could get slim LED DRLs and tail lights, a newly designed closed-off grille, aggressively styled bumpers, flush door handles, and aerodynamic alloy wheels. It is expected to be offered with many exterior hues, including new blue shades.

The electric iteration of the Carens is expected to get a new dashboard design and layout similar to what we might get to see on the Carens facelift. However, the EV could get a different cabin colour scheme, a slightly different layout and a new steering wheel. Certain bits of the interior could be inspired by the new-age Syros SUV which gets a modern and premium design.

In terms of features, it is expected to be loaded with plenty of convenience and safety features that will ensure that you have an enjoyable experience. The top features could include dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered front seats, ventilated front and rear seats, boss mode, rear entertainment screen, and heads-up display.
In the safety department, it could get at least 6 airbags as standard, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and level-2 ADAS features.
Powertrain specifications have not been revealed yet, but we expect Kia to offer it with multiple battery pack options. Since Kia and Hyundai share their engines for their ICE vehicles, chances are that the Creta Electric’s 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery pack could be offered with the Carens EV as well. The Carens EV will be offered with a claimed range of around 500 km. It is expected to be based on the same platform as its ICE counterpart.

The Carens Electric is expected to be priced from around the Rs 17 lakh mark (ex-showroom). It will be a larger three-row alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
The Carens EV will mark Kia’s entry into the mass-market electric vehicle space and also provide a solution for larger families who are seeking a 6 or 7-seater vehicle.
