It was spotted just over 10 days ago, and it's now official. Kia will be bringing over its first ever electric vehicle, the EV6 crossover to Indian shores. You’ll be able to book it from May 26 onwards, which means we should see it go on sale in June.

Considering it's an EV, let's start with all the juicy bits under the skin. The Kia EV6 is one of seven fully electric vehicles to be based on the Hyundai Group's new dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Kia India hasn’t revealed yet what trim will show up on the India-spec, but we know that the model sold abroad gets plenty of options including two battery packs, as well as rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

Here’s a detailed look at all the options the EV6 has:

Specifications

58kWh

77.4kWh

Power (PS)

170PS (RWD), 235PS (AWD)

229PS (RWD), 325PS (AWD)

Torque (Nm)

350Nm (RWD), 605Nm (AWD)

350Nm (RWD, 605Nm (AWD)

Performance enthusiasts can opt for the EV6 GT which plonks in a 585PS dual-electric powertrain, that can hit 0-100kmph in just 3.5 seconds in AWD guise, with a top speed of 260kmph.

As for range, the long-range RWD trim is capable of a WLTP-claimed 510km on a single charge. To juice it up, it's got a 800V charging setup to allow up to 350kW of fast charging. That allows a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes. Another neat trick is Vehicle-To-Load (V2L), where you can charge other electronic appliances and an EV.

The Kia EV6 certainly looks the part of a sporty crossover, with highlights being a clean overall silhouette, Kia’s ‘Digital Tiger Nose’ grille, triangular LED headlights with DRLs, connected tail lamps, and a sloping roofline.

While the cabin is minimalistic, it’s heavily loaded with all the bells and whistles such as 12-inch twin screens for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display, a panoramic panel for climate controls, ambient lighting, heated/ventilated front seats, and eco-friendly seats wrapped in recycled plastics. There’s also Level 3 autonomous driver assists such as safe exit assist, lane following assist, highway driving assist, and remote smart parking assist.

While the Kia EV6 coming to India is great news, it will be limited to only 100 units in the country. It will arrive as a CBU import at prices starting above Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). It should be an alternative to the Volvo XC40 Recharge and also take on potential future rivals in India in the form of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Tesla Model Y
