This is it! The Kia EV9 has been globally unveiled as the Korean carmaker’s flagship electric SUV. It’s for those who want a nice and butch three-row SUV running on electric power, or as we can say, its flagship Telluride’s electric alternative.
Now, the carmaker has already given us a fair insight into how the SUV looks and you can read about that here. In this report, we’ll be focussing on its specifications and certain gizmos, whose details have been revealed during the unveiling. So stick around for all the dope.
The Kia EV9’s architecture is basically the carmaker’s E-GMP platform, which underpins models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Like its platform-based siblings, the Korean marque is offering the butch-looking model in two broad options: Standard Range and Long Range. Under that, there are a multitude of drivetrain options, including rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
To keep things simple, we have compiled all the specifications in a simple, easy-to-consume table:
RWD Standard Range |
RWD Long Range |
AWD |
|
Motor(s) |
Single motor, rear-wheel drive |
Single motor, rear-wheel drive |
Dual motor, all-wheel drive |
Power (PS) |

99.8kWh |

With many carmakers giving customers the option to add features or options by paying extra, it looks like Kia has joined this bizarre trend. So, in the AWD model, you can unlock 100Nm extra by paying a fee on the Kia Connect app, allowing it to clock zero to 100kmph 0.7 seconds earlier.
As expected from such a tech-laden SUV, the EV9 supports fast charging thanks to its 800-volt architecture. As a result, you can eke out 239km of range in just 15 minutes if you find a rapidly fast charger. Also, the SUV gets vehicle to load (V2L) functionality, allowing you to power up certain appliances using the car’s battery pack.
The EV9, Kia says, will be one step closer to full autonomous driving as the Korean marque is planning to introduce level 3 autonomous driving technology in the upcoming GT Line trim. This will be made possible, thanks to 15 sensors and two lidars, giving the SUV a full 360-degree vision to detect obstacles. More details of this tech will be announced later. But for now, the SUV will get all the regular crop of ADAS seen in current day cars.
The Kia EV9 will first go on sale in its home market, Korea, in the second quarter of 2023. And after that, the SUV will be introduced in more markets like Europe and the USA. Like the EV6, the full-size EV9 is expected to come to India as a fully imported model. It’s a full-size alternative to other luxury EVs like the Audi Q8 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX.
