Kia EV5

After the global unveiling of all-electric EV5 SUV earlier in China, Kia unveiled the production-ready version of it. This electric SUV is roughly the size of the Harrier and when it arrives on Indian shores, will rival the Harrier EV. Built on the E-GMP platform, this electric SUV showcases a distinctive design inspired by the Kia’s flagship SUV EV9. The production of the car will take place in China and Korea and will be offered in three variants: standard, long-range and long-range AWD.

The standard model is powered by a 218PS electric motor paired with a 64kWh battery pack that has a CLTC-claimed range of 530km, whereas the long-range variant features 88kWh battery pack paired with same 218PS electric motor and delivers a CLTC-claimed range of 720km. The AWD version of the long-range variant will be powered by a 313PS electric motor paired to a 88kWh battery pack for a CLTC-claimed range of 650km. The model also supports fast charging capabilities which charges the car’s battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes!

Kia also unveiled the EV4 concept, which is a four-door sedan featuring a wide stance with vertical headlights. The distinctive hood design of this model sets it apart from other Kia EVs, with additional bumper edges and contrasting black elements. The profile showcases an elongated silhouette with sleek ORVMs and blacked-out wheel arches, creating a sporty look.

Inside, the cabin features a dual-screen setup and slim instrument panel which gives it a minimalist look. It comes with new 'Mind Modes' which adjusts ambient lighting and ventilation patterns in the cabin. Kia mentions that the 'Perform' mode provides essential information for the driver’s optimum productivity, while 'Serenity' mode creates a relaxed ambience for reflection and restoration.

Full technical specifications for the car are yet to be released and additional details will be available soon, so stay tuned for updates.

EV3 SUV Concept

The EV3 is a Seltos-sized two-row SUV concept which borrows most of its design from Kia’s flagship EV9 SUV, which it showcases in a compact form. It gets squared wheel arches and quirky alloy wheels, giving the SUV a futuristic look

The interior design of the concept maintains a minimalist approach with a clean dashboard. Kia emphasises on sustainability by using environmentally friendly seat materials. The concept also includes adjustable mini tables and rear bench-type seats which can be folded upward to accommodate large items like bicycles. Stay tuned for updates on technical specifications.

Kia India’s Current EV-Lineup

Kia currently offers the EV6 in India, with prices starting from Rs 60.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Kia also recently expanded its EV6 dealer network to 60 outlets across 44 cities in India. It rivals with the likes of Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo XC40 Recharge in India.

During this event, Kia also outlined its global EV strategy, improving reliability and customer convenience, and addressing concerns about charging infrastructure. The highlights of the event also included Kia’s plan to expand its global EV lineup with three new small to medium-sized electric models.
