Currently, the EV6 has garnered over 355 bookings already

Kia kicked off its electric innings in India with the launch of the EV6 crossover, costing from Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom), today. With the initial allocation of 100 units having already been booked, the Korean carmaker, which claims to have received more than 355 bookings for the EV thus far, is working on bringing more units to the country.

That said, there’s no guarantee that all pending orders will be met in the short-term at least. According to a Kia India spokesperson, the company is still unsure about the continued production of the EV6 in Korea due to supply issues. The firm’s Indian arm is in negotiations with Kia Korea to get as many EV6s as possible to India to meet demand.

The EV6 combines the design philosophies of a hatchback, a sedan, as well as an SUV, and is sleek enough with a drag coefficient value of 0.28. Inside, it’s cabin is minimalist and futuristic with vegan leather seats and recycled plastics for the door pads and floor mats.

It’s loaded with features such as dual 12.3-inch displays for the digital driver display and infotainment, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, powered and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, augmented reality head-up display, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof. The EV’s safety kit includes eight airbags (including a pair of front centre airbags), a 360-degree camera as well as ADAS.

Under the hood, it can be specced in either the 229PS RWD formsetup or a 325PS AWD setup. Juiced up by a 77.4kWh battery pack, it can covergo up to a WLTP-claimed range of 528km on a single charge. It allows for upto 350kW of fast charging as it takes as little as 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.  A 50kW charger does the same in around 1 hour and 13 minutes.

While Kia is working on meeting the demand for EV6s in India, if you are among those who’ve booked the car, but couldn’t make it among the top 100 prospects, be ready to face lengthy wait times. The EV rivals the Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW i4 and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5
