The Mahindra XEV 9e is the newest mid-size electric SUV on our shores, and it comes with a complete package that ticks the boxes in every aspect. It offers a premium cabin with a whole lot of features and it also packs plenty in the performance department, while having an impressive claimed range. With such impressive specifications, it goes head-to-head in multiple parameters with the more expensive Hyundai Ioniq 5. In this article, we compare the key specifications of the XEV 9e with that of the Ioniq 5.
Apart from providing you with detailed specifications, this article will also give you an idea of what one should expect from a premium electric SUV.

Rs 46.05 lakh |
It would be fair to leave out the lower and mid-spec variants of the XEV 9e and compare its top-spec variant with the sole fully loaded variant of the Ioniq 5. Even then, the former undercuts the latter by over Rs 15 lakh! While there is a big difference between their pricing, let’s see if it's that big in terms of their specifications.

Clearly, the XEV 9e is the larger, wider and taller SUV of the two and the extra size would surely lead to a greater road presence. The Ioniq 5 boasts a significantly larger wheelbase which means it has a more spacious cabin. In terms of boot space, the XEV 9e takes the point!

As seen in the table above, the XEV 9e’s features list looks more attractive and complete. It gets additional features like an entertainment screen for the co-driver, an extra wireless phone charger, an extra airbag, more speakers, an AR heads-up display and an auto park. The Ioniq 5 might miss out on some extras, but it gets a memory function for the rear seats which the XEV 9e misses out on.

The XEV 9e is available with two battery pack options, and it would be fair to compare the specifications of the larger one with that of the Ioniq 5. The Mahindra EV is much more powerful and is also quicker by a fair margin. The claimed range and fast charging times of both SUVs are comparable and the difference is not a lot. Overall, the XEV 9e has an edge over the Ioniq 5 when you compare their powertrain specifications.
The XEV 9e provides you with all the premium features and performance that you would get from a Rs 50 lakh car at a much lower price. On the other hand, the Ioniq 5, also offers a great overall package but you will have to pay extra if you have your eyes set on the Hyundai EV.
However, it also comes down to your individual preference! What the Hyundai offers is intangible in the sense that the Ioniq 5 is tried and tested and globally acknowledged, hence there would be more peace of mind. But the price gap is still a lot and the Mahindra SUV would still make for a more practical buy!
If it were up to this author, and Rs 46 lakhs was the budget, he would rather pick the top-spec XEV 9e along with a mid-spec Hyundai Creta! Let us know what you would do in the comments below.
