Although Maruti Suzuki kick-started the Auto Expo 2023 with the eVX concept, MG has flown down a good chunk of its international lineup for display at the Auto Expo. The brand has showcased six cars: eRX5, eHS, MG4, MG5, MIFA 9 And Marvel R Electric at the show. Of these, the MG4 and eHS are being contemplated for market launch here. Here are all the deets:
MG eRX5
The ‘e’ in the RX5 here stands for a PHEV powertrain. The eRX5 is an SUV that is sold in the Chinese market as the Roewe eRX5. Under the hood is a 1.5-litre turbo VTGI engine dubbed Blue Core. This power unit develops a combined output of 247PS and 570Nm with the help of an electric motor. What makes it stand out is the striking design, the massive grille and a cabin that features a 27-inch 4K display for the infotainment system and a claimed nought to 100kmph time of 6.9 seconds.
MG eHS
Yet another plug-in hybrid from MG that is on display is a compact five-seater SUV that looks like it's related to the ZS and ZS EV. Highlights include a 258PS from a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to an electric motor that draws power from a 16.6kWh battery pack and a 10-speed automatic gearbox (four-speed gearbox for the electric motor and six-speed for the ICE). It also boasts an EV-only range of 52km. A host of safety features and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment display are the other standout bits.
MG4 EV
the automobile community
The MG4 EV is an all-electric car in every essence. Markets abroad feature two battery pack options – 51kWh and 64kWh – with the highest output being 205PS and 250Nm. Both these variants get a single motor that drives the rear wheels. MG claims a maximum driving range of 450km for the MG4. This electric hatchback rivals the Volkswagen ID.3 in international markets. However, the icing on the cake is the fact that MG is considering the MG4 for market launch here!
MG5
Rejoice! if you have a liking towards station wagons, because MG has showcased the MG5 electric estate at the Auto Expo 2023. It features a 61kWh battery that powers a 159PS electric motor and can do 96kmph in 7.3 seconds. A 524km (WLTP) range is impressive and so is the fact that it supports fast-charging and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. Other interesting kits include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera and ADAS.
MIFA 9
MG claims it is the world’s first full-size all-electric MPV. Looking at the numbers, it is larger than the Kia Carnival and can seat up to seven passengers. An all-electric Vellfire from MG? Sounds like it. A massive 90kWh battery pack works with an electric motor to develop 245PS and 350Nm of twist with a top speed of 180kmph. A maximum driving range of 440km is also impressive considering the MIFA 9 is a huge MPV.
Marvel R
We leave the best till the last, right? This Marvel R is arguably the best car from MG’s Auto Expo lineup, at least if you go by the specs and design. It is a smart-looking SUV coupe with the right proportions and lines. But the ace up its sleeve is the tri-motor AWD setup that puts out 288PS, a solid 665Nm of twist and it is capable of a zero to 100kmph sprint time of 4.9 seconds! It’s got a simple cabin with a nine-speaker Bose sound system and a 19.4-inch Corning Gorilla Glass touchscreen.
