EQS 4Matic to be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) kit.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will flag off the electric sedan’s roll-out at the Chakan plant.
All-wheel drive EV to put out 523PS and 885Nm.
It will offer better range than the 586km AMG version.
Bookings open at Rs 25 lakh, should be priced north of Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).
Just over a month after debuting its first electric sedan in India, Mercedes is now bringing its locally assembled, non-AMG, top-spec variant to our shores, with the launch scheduled for September 30.
The EQS 580 4Matic will offer a slightly lower power output and, expectedly, a lower price tag than the existing imported AMG EQS 53 4Matic+. It is available to book for a token amount of Rs 25 lakh online and at official dealerships.
The EQS 580 will offer a similar dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain as its AMG sibling, but with a combined output of 523PS and 885Nm, 237PS and 135Nm lower than the higher performance variant.
Despite the comparatively lower output, the EQS 580 is no slouch and still comes with a claimed 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.3 seconds. The AMG EQS 53 comes with the Dynamic Plus package as standard in India and has a claimed 0-100kmph time of 3.4 seconds.
The EQS 580 is powered by a 107.8kWh battery pack with a better claimed range figure of 676km (AMG is rated for 586km). It’s capable of fast charging at up to 200kW, at which rate it can juice up to 80 per cent in around half an hour.
The EQS 580 may be comparatively slower than its AMG version, but it’s equally well equipped. It gets rear-wheel steering and an extremely aerodynamic bodywork with a drag coefficient value of 0.20 Cd.
Inside, the main highlight is the 56-inch Hyperscreen that’s made up of three screens, a driver’s instrumentation display, centre infotainment screen and another display on the passenger side.
Other features include massaging rear seats, facial and fingerprint recognition and a premium Burmester sound system. The EQS 580 will also get a suite of advanced driver-assistance and active safety features (ADAS) with autonomous driving and parking functions.
