Third edition of Mercedes road safety campaign launched.
Lays down future plans for safe mobility.
Mercedes has showcased the Vision EQXX in India as it flagged off the third edition of its road safety campaign. But before dwelling into the details of the road safety campaign, let’s talk about the Vision EQXX, which is Mercedes-Benz’ sleek looking EV concept that’s capable of doing over 1000km in the real world!
Despite how it looks, the Vision EQXX isn’t a production-ready vehicle. The concept is a sample of the future showcasing the possible degree of efficiency and sustainability that can be achieved going forward.
The design is smooth, flowing, and minimalistic. It features EQS-like headlights with the small tri-pointed star elements embroidered on the front bumper. The sloping roofline seamlessly flows on to the elongated rear-end of the EV, all of which contribute in making it as aerodynamically efficient as possible. A huge strap of LED light spans the width of the rear, almost going down towards the bumpers.
In fact, the EV, which boasts a drag coefficient of 0.17cD, is one of the slippiest cars out there. Mercedes even factored in small touches like the logo, which has been pasted on it like a F1 car.
It uses technology borrowed from Mercedes’ blokes at Formula 1 to put together a high-density battery pack with reduced weight and need for space. Even though the battery has a capacity of just 100kWh, it boasts a claimed range of more than 1000 km. Also, you might be thinking that this is a powerful EV with plenty of poke, but it rather has a single 245PS electric motor.
The drivetrain of the Vision EQXX is so efficient that 95% of the energy emitted from the battery is transferred to the wheels. For comparison, a generic ICE engine has an efficiency of just around 30%.
The sloping roofline of the EV houses solar cells, used to power the auxiliary units in the EV. This reduces the load on the battery and hence improves the range. Also in ideal conditions, it can offer up to 25 kms of extra range for long-distance journeys.
Although the Mercedes Vision EQXX won’t be going up for sale but on a positive note, all of the technology showcased by the EV will make its way into Mercedes’ future electric cars.
Mercedes’ road safety campaign was first launched in the country back in 2015. Fast forward to 2022 and Mercedes is going strong with its third edition, highlighting and raising the importance of safe roads.
Mercedes is playing an active role in contributing to the United Nations’ aim to reduce fatalities by following real-life safety philosophy that goes into vehicle development and testing.
The campaign uses exhibits, tech-days, and media drives to raise awareness of road safety. Mercedes displayed an EQS demo vehicle at the event, which reveals how the brand is making safer cars for the road. Crumple zones for energy absorption, pre-safe systems, and high-voltage and battery protection elements were all visible to the naked eye.

The upshot of the safety campaign over the years is that over 50,000 students and 15000+ children have been reached and preached the importance of road safety. Furthermore, first responder emergency training has been given to students and cabbies, while over 100 schools adopted infrastructure offering better safety around. Through the digital medium, over 20 million people have been further reached.
The carmaker also laid down plans for future road safety with automated driving technology which will be able to communicate with not only the other users on the road but also with infrastructure to avoid any potential collision.
Such kinds of road safety campaigns are very important, especially in a country like India with the highest number of road accidents according to official statistics. Even then, campaigns like these won’t have an impact if we, the people, don’t start implementing the basic restraints offered like seatbelts. When on the road, it's not just your life you have to worry about, but also the people around you. Safety is paramount and comes first, always.
