The removable batteries could introduce an even cheaper Ola scooter

Quick News Highlights

- Ola CEO teases swappable battery tech

- To most likely be used in a CV first

- Will target the B2B sector

Ola Electric scooters only have a fixed battery setup. However, that could stand to change, as per a new teaser published by the brand’s CEO, on his social media profile. The images published reveal that the brand is working on removable battery setup, but only for commercial electric scooters. This also hints at a new range of electric scooters from Ola.

Styling

The teasers are in line with what had been seen in the leaked patents of this upcoming scooter. It sports a utilitarian design approach which suggests that this will be a commercial use scooter and will target the last mile connectivity and B2B sector.

Ergonomics

The frame seen is finished in a shade of red and there are protective side guards protruding from it. The floorboard appears to be completely flat, which can probably be used to carry payloads. The rider footpegs are very basic in nature and the e-scooter misses out on pillion footpegs since it doesn’t have a pillion seat.

Features

The e-scooter seems to have an extended storage in place of a pillion seat to add to its functionality.  The scooter also has very less bodywork to keep costs in check. Features like a digital instrument cluster and all-LED lighting are expected.

Battery

The biggest talking point of the teaser though has to be the removable battery tech showcased. This could potentially enable Ola to reduce the prices of their two wheeler and keep it competitive. The exact battery pack details have not been yet revealed.

Storage

There also looks to be a small storage area next to where the battery pack will be. A dual battery pack version could be probable in the future. We can also see a rear wheel hub motor in the images and the rear suspension setup looks to be a twin-shock one.

ZigSays

Ola’s current scooter line-up features fixed batteries. The swappable battery tech has potential to boost their sales. Only the Hero Vida currently uses this type of battery pack and the upcoming Honda Activa electric might also use it.
