Ola Electric has launched the Move OS 4 update bringing new features and functionalities to its lineup, the Ola S1 Pro, Ola S1 Air and the Ola S1X range. The new update has also improved several existing features. The update was first rolled out as a Beta in 2023 with 50,000 beta users, and with that data, Ola has now rolled out the final version of MoveOS 4.
The update, according to Ola Electric, has brought many changes and has introduced 100+ features and functionalities to the scooters. First of the change is the tweaks to the user interface which has made the most commonly used features accessible to the riders with just one tap, without having to leave the navigation screen and this will make things much easier for the riders.
Ola e-scooters will now get dedicated Ola Maps for navigation which will also bring functionalities such as ‘Find My Scooter’ and ‘Share location from app’. Ola Maps will also allow users to personalize their travel experience by designating favorite locations.
There’s also the introduction of an AI-Based Indicator Control which turns off the scooter’s indicators automatically and minimizes manual commands needed from the rider. The interesting thing about this feature is that it learns users preferences and personalizes the experience the more the feature is used.
The MoveOS 4 update will also introduce some new safety features and improve existing ones, the new features include a tamper alert, fall alert both powered by AI, and hill descent control. The hill descent control keeps a check on the electric scooter’s speed while rolling downhill, thereby giving the rider a better sense of control.
Then there’s the geofencing and time fencing functionality adding an extra bit of safety, the former of which will allow the user to define specific boundaries within which the e-scooter can operate. The latter offers a time-based system that lets the secondary rider use the e-scooter for a specific period of time. Other than this, the update has improved the already existing features and made some tweaks. Now cruise control is available in Eco mode and the hill hold feature and proximity unlock have been made better.
Ola has also introduced biometric app lock through their smartphone application (facial recognition or fingerprint) to further enhance safety. There’s also a passcode recovery option via cloud and bluetooth, for cases where the rider forgets his passcode. Even with these safety features, having a physical key is always more intuitive and easier for the rider.
There’s also the introduction of garage mode which allows the control of multiple scooters from the Ola app interface. The update will also bring faster Hypercharging (Ola’s name for fast charging), improved regen and charging time predictions.
With this update Ola introduced a new mood on the scooter, dubbed ‘Care Mood' which displays how much money you have saved along with readouts such as how much carbon emissions have been avoided. Then there’s the concert mode which will allow riders to play the same song on multiple scooters and also perform a coordinated light show to create an impromptu concert of sorts.
Lastly, there’s the ride journal feature which gives the rider stats such as average speed, average battery use, range, efficiency, money saved and distance covered via the Ola Electric App on their smartphone, allowing riders to share milestones in their riding journey. The App now comes with a dark mode as well.
With these updates the Ola electric scooter line-up is now the most feature packed e-scooter lineup in the country. We hope all these features work consistently and that Ola has learnt all the right lessons from the beta testing of the MoveOS 4 and made necessary changes to give riders a better experience.
