The Rimac Nevera dethroned the Pinninfarina Batista to become the fastest accelerating production vehicle as it went on to break a total of 23 performance records

  • Rimac Nevera has set new performance benchmarks.

  • Smashes 23 acceleration and braking records in a single day.

  • Recorded 0-400-0kmph time of 29.93 seconds is over a second faster than the previous record holder.

  • Rimac Nevera is limited to just 150 units worldwide.

It isn’t everyday that we jot down a piece about a car smashing a world record for straight line performance, but exceptions have to be made for breaking 23 records in a single day. Consider this as a rare solar eclipse that happens once in maybe a century but in automotive terms. The eclipse that we are talking about today is the Rimac Nevera, a Croatian electric hypercar that packs over 1900PS and 2300Nm waiting to be unleashed.

0-100kmph in 1.81 seconds, 0-200kmph in 4.42 seconds, 0-300kmph in 9.22 seconds and 0-400kmph in a meagre 21.31 seconds. Yeah, the Rimac smashed these four records and then some more as it set the benchmark for a 0-400-0kmph time of 29.93 seconds - over a whole second quicker than the previous record holder.

Fun fact: The Nevera does 0-400-0kmph in less time than what it takes the Mclaren F1 to clock 0-350kmph.

The record’s smashing run was carried out at Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) facility in Germany, using road-legal Michelin Cup 2 R tires and standard one-foot rollout. And as for its performance, Rimac says the Nevera didn’t sweat a break, offering maximum performance from all its systems even when put under full load multiple times when taking these runs back to back.

Interestingly, the test driver, Goran DRNDK, said that it was quite easy to achieve this feat because of the stability and control systems onboard the Nevera. He even went to the extent of saying that you can even have some ice cream while attempting most of these records. Don’t believe us? Watch him eat one in this video at 1:00:

Rimac owes this milestone to the electric powertrain of the Nevera, which deploys four electric motors to develop 1914PS power and 2360 Nm of torque. You can know everything about it in detail here.

With such bonkers record-breaking times, we wonder where we’ll go from here, how much more time can we shove off that 0-100kmph and to what extent will engineering have to progress to reach newer record-breaking heights. It’ll probably be a while away, but if you had to guess, what would be your pick for a future record breaker?
