First offering could be the Burgman Electric. Suzuki also says a total of eight new EV models will be launched by 2030

Suzuki has revealed its electric mobility plans and it turns out the first electric two-wheeler wearing its badge will debut by 2024 globally, including in India. The firm has also disclosed its carbon neutrality goals.

Any guesses on what Suzuki’s first EV in 2024 could be? Well, the Burgman Electric has been spied on multiple times on our streets in a near-production-ready avatar. So, the Burgman being Suzuki’s first EV in India is a no-brainer.

Interestingly, the Japanese bikemaker has revealed that these EVs will be more commuter-friendly than performance-oriented two-wheelers. So, we can expect a performance and range similar to that of the Bajaj Chetak

Suzuki’s EV lineup includes both electric scooters and electric motorcycles. As far as the latter is concerned, expect Suzuki to come up with a Gixxer-based electric motorcycle. Apart from this,  the marque plans on launching eight electric two wheelers by 2030 (which includes the above-mentioned Burgman Electric), which will account for 25 per cent of its total global two-wheeler lineup.

As for performance-oriented products, Suzuki mentioned that it will be working on carbon-neutral-fuel-powered performance bikes and scooters instead of electric. This could also include flex-fuel two-wheelers.

Finally, Suzuki plans on going completely carbon neutral by 2050 in Japan and Europe and by 2070 in India.

The Suzuki Burgman will rival the likes of the Hero Vida V1, Ola S1, Ather 450 Plus, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. It will also face competition from the Honda Activa Electric, which is all set to be launched by March 2024.
