Bharat NCAP has crash tested its first electric cars – the Tata Punch EV and Tata Nexon EV – both of which pass the safety test with a full five star rating. It must also be noted that the Tata Punch EV is now the safest car to be tested by Bharat NCAP in India.
Without further ado, let's decode both the electric SUV’s crash test results and see how they fared.
Adult Protection: 31.46 / 32
Child Protection: 45 / 49
With the aforementioned scores, the Tata Punch EV is now the safest model to be tested by Bharat NCAP yet. Here is a list of scores of all the cars Bharat NCAP has tested till date:

Child Occupant Protection (COP) |
Tata Punch EV |

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Punch EV offered good protection to both the occupants head, neck and thighs. The driver’s tibias and co-driver’s chest, though, were rated as adequate.
Moving on to the side deformable barrier test, the Punch EV offered good shielding to the head, abdomen and hips, while the chest received adequate protection. All of the aforementioned points received good protection in the side pole impact test.
Bharat NCAP hasn’t given a detailed report on child safety tests, and as a result, we haven’t discussed it in this story. The Punch EV does come with ISOFIX child seat anchorages in the rear.
Adult Protection: 29.86 / 32
Child Protection: 44.95 / 49
The Nexon EV has the lowest adult protection scores out of the four Tatas tested by Bharat NCAP. That said, its child protection score is almost there with the best.
Starting with the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Nexon EV offered good protection to both the front occupants head, neck, thighs and the feet (only driver’s side rating provided). The driver’s chest, tibias and the co-driver’s right side tibias were rated as adequate.

In the side deformable barrier test, the Nexon EV offered good protection to the head, chest and hips, while the abdomen received adequate shielding. And lastly, in the side pole impact test, the Nexon EV, just like the Punch EV, offered top protection to the aforementioned parts.
Once again, a detailed report of the Tata Nexon EV’s child safety test wasn’t provided by Bharat NCAP and as a result, we have refrained from mentioning it. It also comes with ISOFIX child seat anchors in the back.
The Tata Punch EV is priced from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Nexon EV costs from Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Punch EV is an alternative to the Citroen eC3 and Tata Tiago. On the other hand, the Nexon EV locks horns with the Mahindra XUV400, while being an affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV.
