Tata will debut the Tiago EV tomorrow.
Could make use of the 26kWh battery pack paired to a 75PS electric motor from the Tigor EV.
Will get cruise control and regenerative braking from the Nexon EV.
The electric hatchback could be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
After a half-month-long teaser campaign, Tata will launch the Tiago EV tomorrow. It is likely to be crowned as the most affordable electric offering in the country and will join Tata’s electric stable alongside the Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV. We have assorted everything you need to know about the electric hatchback ahead of its reveal tomorrow:
In terms of looks, we expect Tata to incorporate a few electric-specific design elements like a closed-off grille and blue highlights to differentiate the electric from the ICE-powered Tiago. But, expect the overall silhouette to be identical to the standard car. Expect a few subtle changes inside the cabin including a new white upholstery to remind the occupants of it being an EV rather than a regular fuel burner.
We are quite familiar with Tata’s Ziptron powertrain as seen on the Tigor EV and Nexon EV. For the electric hatchback, Tata could make use of the Tigor EV’s 26kWh battery pack paired to a 75PS electric motor. A teaser confirmed that its battery will support fast charging, although the charging capacity has been kept under wraps. On a full charge, the setup has an ARAI-claimed range of 306km. However, being smaller than the Tigor EV, we won’t rule out the possibility of Tata equipping the Tiago EV with a smaller battery pack and a less powerful motor.

In the build-up to its debut, Tata released a slew of teasers that have painted a vague picture of its features list, which includes the addition of new toys. The electric hatchback will borrow features like cruise control and regenerative braking from the Nexon EV while packing additional features like connected car tech and leatherette seats over the standard model’s equipment list which comprises a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, eight-speaker sound system, auto climate control and a cooled glovebox. For the safety of the passengers, it could pack dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and cornering stability control.
With an expected price tag ranging between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, the Tiago EV could command a premium of more than Rs 2 lakh over its ICE-powered counterpart. Still, the Tata Tiago EV is likely to become the most affordable electric car in India. Tata’s most affordable electric model at present, the Tigor EV, costs between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Tata Tiago EV will foray into a territory where it will have no direct competitors. The closest rival to the electric hatchback will be its own sibling, the Tigor EV. However, Tata’s electric hatchback will be a more affordable alternative to the upcoming Citroen C3 EV.
