The Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3 are the first two contenders of the affordable electric hatchback segment in the country. And even though the appeal of one is the antithesis of the other (rugged and beefy vs compact and stylish), they effectively fight for a spot in the same segment and will likely be the first EVs in a lot of Indian households. So today, we compare the two in terms of their 0-100kmph performance and top speed.
However, instead of taking the number from the brochure, we’ve carried out these tests ourselves in the real world for more authentic and relevant figures. But before we proceed, here are the specs first:

Citroen’s deficiency of power can be clearly seen in its mundane 0-100kmph time, which is nearly 3 seconds slower than the Tiago EV’s time.
The result is a lot closer for a sprint from 0-80kmph, with the Tiago EV just over a second faster.
The braking test was the closest amongst all with just 0.44m (44cm) between them as the Tiago EV stopped in 46.26m and the Citroen eC3 came to a halt in 46.70m.
While the top speeds of both the EVs were limited electronically, the Tiago EV managed to clock a higher speed of 119.18kmph, in contrast to the eC3’s 102kmph.
Few key takeaways:
the automobile community
While they might not feel rapid at higher speeds, both the Tiago EV and eC3 have got more than enough poke for city maneuvers and even have very similar 0-60kmph times that are just just under the 6 seconds mark.
It is only after 60kmph when the eC3 starts falling short on performance and its top speed of 102kmph means that you will have to plan out your overtakes on the highway in advance.
Tiago EV’s top speed of 119.19kmph means that you can drive it on the highway without thinking twice and even overtaking isn’t an issue. This makes it a competent overall package with decent highway driveability and punch for the City.
So the Tiago EV is the clear winner of our real-world performance comparison test with the Citroen eC3. But going beyond the performance, it is the Citroen which boasts the better claimed range. So will it be able to translate that into a win against the Tata Tiago EV? Stay tuned for that comparison in the coming days.
