Global premier on 9 March.
Powered by a 200PS electric motor and 77kWh battery.
Slated for launch in Europe in September 2022.
Production set to begin in the first half of this year.
Volkswagen is bringing back its iconic VW Bus as the ID. Buzz electric vehicle (EV). It’s set to be globally unveiled on March 9, and it’ll enter production in the first half of 2022. The carmaker plans to launch the ID. Buzz in September in European countries, where pre-production prototypes are already undergoing real-world testing.
The new ID. Buzz MPV is based on the global MEB electric vehicle platform, and it has typical van-like proportions. At 4,712mm long, it’s about the same length as the India-spec Toyota Innova, but the electric MPV is significantly taller and wider. In fact, it’s so huge that you can carry 1,121 litres of luggage with all five seats up. The ID. Buzz Cargo variant for commercial usage offers 3,900 litres of storage volume!
A 204PS/310Nm rear-mounted electric motor powers the ID. Buzz MPV. The battery pack holds 77kWh, and although VW hasn’t quoted any range estimates, expect around 300km-400km from a full charge. In addition, the ID. Buzz will get a ‘Plug and Charge’ self-authentication function that’ll allow you to simply plug in the car and start charging at a wide range of public charging stations.

We’ll also see some more futuristic tech on the VW ID. Buzz, such as bi-directional charging. This will allow the ID. Buzz to send electricity back into your household power grid through the wall charger in case of emergencies. In addition, the electric MPV will get a Trained Parking autonomous parking system, Car2X communication, and Travel Assist part-time autonomous driving.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz MPV’s overall aesthetic is inspired by the Type-1 and Type-2 Volkswagen Bus people movers. We expect global sales to start in countries outside Europe by the end of 2022, but don’t hold your breath on an India launch. Volkswagen hasn’t disclosed its plans to bring global EVs to India yet, so it could be some time before we get to see the ID. Buzz on our roads.
