The much-anticipated Mahindra XEV 9e has been revealed in all its glory, at a starting price of Rs 21.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The XEV 9e is the production-spec version of the XUV e9 and is a mid-size electric SUV which will be positioned above the XUV400 and the newly revealed BE 6e in Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup. The XUV 9e is ground-breaking in many departments, whether it is its futuristic design, sophisticated interior or its powertrain options.
To understand what the XEV 9e is all about, here are is a detailed look at the electric SUV:
The Mahindra XEV 9e is essentially a mid-size electric SUV in a coupe body style, which looks like a facelifted version of the XUV700 (if it was a SUV-coupe), however, it’s anything but.
Up front, it sports a modern and muscular look with connected LED DRLs which have an inverted L-shaped design. The LED headlamps are vertically stacked and you also get a closed-off grille and a minimalist-looking bumper.
Coming to the sides, it sports an attractive coupe-design featuring a sloping roofline. It gets 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. Flush door handles further add a hint of premiumness to the sporty design.
The sloping roofline merges seamlessly with the tailgate, without any cuts/creases or sudden tapering of the roofline. You also get a shark fin antenna and a little roof-mounted spoiler to accentuate its sportiness. Complimenting its front look, the rear also gets a connected lighting setup featuring sleek-connected LED tail lamps. But the tailgate is anything but sleek, as it looks like a single and chunky block of metal, just covered ever so slightly towards its opposite ends.
The interior of the XEV 9e too looks like an update to the XUV700, but an extensive update to say the least. Two large screens are found desirable, but this one gets three screens, making it the first mid-size SUV to get the extra screen for the passenger side. The three displays comprise a driver’s display, an infotainment unit and an entertainment screen for the co-driver.
The XEV 9e gets a new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo in the middle. A fixed panoramic glass roof is also offered, which is one of the many features on offer.
In terms of features, you get a digital drivers' display, a touchscreen infotainment system, an entertainment screen for the passenger, which combine together to form a 43-inch mega screen. Other features include a panoramic glass roof, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, dual-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered and ventilated front seats, 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, cruise control, multiple wireless phone chargers, and connected car technology.
Safety is taken care of by 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, auto park, front and rear parking sensors, a suite of ADAS features and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The XEV 9e is offered with multiple battery pack options, available with a rear-wheel drive configuration. The INGLO platform is capable of hosting an all-wheel drivetrain too, but Mahindra hasn't divulged any details for the same. Here is a detailed look at the specifications revealed so far:
