Toyota India has showcased the bZ4X electric SUV at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. It’s the carmaker’s first-ever battery electric SUV and is based on a dedicated EV-specific platform. It’s also the first of the carmaker’s EVs based on the bZ series, which spawns seven vehicles, including the new b3ZX unveiled in China.
In terms of styling, the bZ4X’s production version looks very similar to the concept version. It has plenty of sharp cuts and creases on the side profile, giving the SUV a nice and sporty look. Elements like the connected LED headlamps and taillamps give it a nice and modern air. Lastly, the splashes of body cladding add muscle to the overall design.
Inside, the high-mounted digital driver’s display and high-mounted central console give it an impression of a high-end fighter jet’s cockpit. The rest of the dashboard design is quite minimalist, with a large touchscreen infotainment system and sleek AC vents below it taking centre stage.

Internationally, the bZ4X gets two powertrain options: 204PS front-wheel drive (single motor) and 217PS all-wheel drive (dual motor). Despite the powertrain options, a 71.4kWh battery pack is standard and boasts charging speeds up to 150kW using a DC fast charger. In terms of range, the SUV has EPA-claimed range of up to 405km and 357km, respectively, for single and dual motor options.
The bZ4X, internationally, is a rival to other electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq iV. It’s an alternative to models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 in India.
