Swedish carmaker Volvo has updated its naming nomenclature for its EV and plug-in hybrid models. This move primarily aims to standardise their fully electric lineup and align with upcoming EV releases. Plug-in hybrids will now feature T6 or T8 suffixes for varying power outputs, with the removal of 'Recharge' badging altogether.
Volvo's EV lineup in India currently comprises the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge, which will now be known as the EX40 and EC40 respectively, globally. Volvo states that the revised nomenclature also aims to enhance consumer clarity for upcoming models as part of their goal to become a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030. But note that in India, these models are still called the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge and the change will be applied here later.
Globally, Volvo also offers a performance software pack as an optional upgrade for both the twin motor versions XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, putting out an additional 34 PS. While, in India both are offered with 78 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 500 km.
