Volvo’s first electric vehicle for India is the XC40 Recharge, and it also holds the banner for the first locally assembled luxury electric SUV in the country. The first unit of the EV has now rolled out of Volvo’s Hoskote plant near Bengaluru and the first batch of 150 units will be delivered to their respective owners by the end of this year.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Cars India said, “We had in May this year announced that we would commence local assembly of our all electric offering the XC40 Recharge and today we witnessed the first car rolling off the assembly line at our Hoskote plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka. Historic as this is, today’s event further strengthens our commitment of offering the Indian market a new electric model every year. The rollout is also a step in the right direction towards our goal of becoming an all-electric company by 2030.”

Being a locally assembled unit, the XC40 Recharge is priced fairly at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom), but that price tag will likely see a bump for the next set of orders.

Powertrain

The XC40 Recharge comes packing dual electric motors delivering 408PS and 660Nm. The motors are fed by a 78kWh battery pack. This gives the SUV a claimed range of 418km. Power is delivered to all four wheels and the SUV sprints from zero to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds. Its powertrain supports fast-charging to up to 150kW, which recharges the battery from zero to 80 percent within 40 minutes of plug-in time.
