The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the most sought after electric vehicles you can buy in the Indian market today. It’s based on the global E-GMP dedicated EV platform, gets a large battery pack and decently powerful e-motor and looks unique. So when it came to the Zig office for a brief while, we were interested to put it in our torture Drive To Death test, where we see how far the EV can go in a single charge.
But before that, let’s talk stats. In India, the Ioniq 5 is offered in a single long range rear-wheel drive variant. So it gets a 217PS/350Nm rear drive e-motor paired to a 72.1kWh battery pack. This setup promises a claimed range of 631km on a full charge, but let’s face the fact that achieving this in the real world is still a question mark.
So to find out the answer to this question, we take the Ioniq 5 from our homebase, which is Pune, through various terrain and roads, including winding roads, hills, long and straight highways and jammed city conditions. How many kms did we manage to cover before the battery died? You can find the answer to that in our epic Drive To Death video:
Earlier, we managed to put EV through its paces to see how quick it can do from naught to 100kmph. Also, in an unique challenge, we wanted to find out the EV’s charging times when topped up via a 120kWh fast charger. And the answers to these doubts can be found out in this detailed report.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is priced at Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s a more premium alternative to the BYD Atto 3, while being a more affordable rival to the Kia EV6. To know our impressions about the Hyundai Ioniq 5, check out our in-depth first drive review.
