Volvo Cars India has commenced deliveries of its latest electric offering, the C40 Recharge. The first two models were delivered in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and it should commence in other states soon. Priced at Rs 61.25 lakh (ex-showroom), it is assembled in India as a CKD, and is offered in a single fully loaded variant with all the bells and whistles.

The main change for the C40 Recharge over its SUV sibling, the XC40 Recharge, is the design of the rear, where it gets a sloping roofline. That merges on to the neatly integrated tailgate housing two spoilers, flanked by sleek L-shaped LED tail lamps with a cool waterfall-like insignia. The C40’s front-end is ditto of the XC40 Recharge with its closed-off grille and LED headlights with Thor’s hammer-shaped LED DRLs.

In terms of features, the XC40 Recharge gets a fixed panoramic sunroof, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, powered front seats (with a memory setting for the driver), dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, Harman Kardon sound system, and a powered tailgate. Safety is taken care of by eight airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.

Volvo’s small electric family SUV is mighty fast, thanks to its dual motors belting out a whopping 408PS and 660Nm. Pedal to the metal, it does naught to 100kmph in just 4.7 seconds before maxing out at 180kmph. A 78kWh battery pack means it can do a claimed range of 530km before you need to top it up.

To know our impressions of the C40 Recharge, head to our in-depth first drive review. You can consider it as an SUV-coupe alternative to the Kia EV6 in India with no direct rivals. Bookings are open through Volvo India’s website.
