In the latest edition of Zig’s performance comparison report, we line up Tata’s two entry-level electric cars: the Tiago EV and its sedan counterpart, the Tigor EV. Yes, these two cars might be mainly used in city conditions, but their zippy performance from their motors do make these cars quite fun to drive. So which car crossed the line first in our performance test?
Let’s find out. But before that…

Both cars here make the same amount of power, but the Tigor EV is torquier. The sedan also has a slightly larger battery pack, but despite that its claimed range is the same as the Tiago EV. Probably it could be due to the fact that it puts out more torque and also has to lug around a bit more weight.

Despite the extra weight though, its claimed 0-60kmph time is quicker than the hatchback. Can the Tiago EV put a show on the road? Let’s find out:

Tata Tiago EV |
Tata Tigor EV |

As expected, the torquier Tigor EV managed to cross the line a tad quicker than the Tiago EV. That said, the hatch started reeling in the sedan as speeds started to climb up. A probable reason for its performance being identical could boil down to its weight as the sedan is heavier and carries a slightly larger battery pack as well.
In the roll-on acceleration test, the Tiago EV with its more perkier power output, managed to outshadow the sedan by just a smidge.

But one aspect to note is that despite the Tigor EV having more power, its outright delivery in Drive mode is much more subdued when compared to the hatch. And that explains why it’s so much slower than the Tiago EV, especially in both outright and roll-on acceleration tests.

Considering that the Tiago EV has the slightly lesser power output here and managed to keep up with the sedan in almost all categories, it manages to pick up the trophy. However, in the real world, it must be mentioned that both models pack adequate performance, be it in the city or when heading out for short road trips.
