Two years since first spying the upcoming 650cc cruiser, Royal Enfield must’ve changed a lot right?

You’d think that the Super Meteor 650 must have evolved a lot over the past two years. After all, we have lost count of the number of spy shots we’ve had of this upcoming Royal Enfield bike. Well, after yet another spy shot makes its way to our hard drive dedicated to Royal Enfield test mules, we have listed down all the differences between the most recent spy shot and the first time the Super Meteor was spotted.

If you’re thinking of grabbing some refreshments before diving into this list, hold on. Sorry to disappoint you, but after spending a lot of time examining the spy shots with a magnifying glass, there are only THREE main differences between the test mule of the Super Meteor 650 spotted recently, and the one spotted over two years ago.

Yes, not thirty, just three. While I was perplexed at first too, and questioned my observation skills, the entire bike team here at ZigWheels scrutinised the images too, and inferred the same. The three differences are –

1) The test mule from the initial spy shots had the chunky instrument console we have seen on the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650. However, the most recent spy shot reveals the display to be sleeker, while still retaining the twin-pod layout.

2) Brushed metal finish below the battery box. Yes, this is a small aesthetic change, and it is understandable that as the test mules are now production ready, they will feature such design flair. That said, the brushed metal finish gives a premium feel.

3) ByBre branding on the brake callipers. Well, now you know that we scanned through these images with surgeon-like precision.

Considering Royal Enfield has been testing the Super Meteor 650 over the past two years, with some test mules even sporting touring accessories, what’s stopping the Chennai-based manufacturer from launching the bike? Moreover, the brand already has a number of different bikes undergoing testing in addition to the Super Meteor – Shotgun 650, Classic 650, 2023 Bullet 350, Himalayan 450, Scram 450, Scrambler 650, cafe racer-styled Continental 650 and the 2023 Continental 650.

One reason that we can think of is that Royal Enfield might also be facing semiconductor shortage issues that have been plaguing the automotive industry for as long as Enfield is testing the Super Meteor 650.

Well, whatever the reason might be, Royal Enfield definitely has its plate full, and we hope that these bikes are rolled out soon, so that Enfield’s test riders can grab some rest, and we can clock in a lot of saddle time on these bikes.
