Honda has finally launched the heavily updated Vario 160 in Indonesia. The scooter has been in production since 2006, and in its seventh generation, it not just gains cosmetic improvements but also performance upgrades.
Sporting defined and aggressive lines on the body, the 2022 Honda Vario looks more edgy and smart than ever before. It now features an all-new LED headlight with LED DRLs extending all the way to the top of the front apron.
It is powered by a new single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 160cc engine developing 15.3PS at 8500rpm and 13.8Nm at 7,000rpm. For reference, the outgoing model generates 13.1PS and 13.4Nm. Interestingly, the performance of the new Vario matches that of the Yamaha Aerox 155.
Even the underpinnings have been updated. The scooter now comes in a fatter 100/80-14 and 120/70-14 tyres instead of the outgoing model’s 90/80-14 and 100/80-14 units. The chunkier tyres should provide a better contact patch and improve cornering confidence. Honda has also updated the braking system, giving the scooter a rear disc brake instead of the drum unit on the Vario 150.
The Honda Vario 160 comes in two variants: CBS and dual-channel ABS. The former is priced at RP 25,800,000 (approx. Rs 1.34 lakh), and the latter at RP 28,500,000 (approx. Rs 1.48 lakh). Both on-road prices, Jakarta. That’s almost Rs 7,000 more than the top variant of the Yamaha Aerox 155 in Indonesia.
Now, the Honda Vario 160 is unlikely to come to India, but we expect the bikemaker to bring the PCX160 to our shores, provided the maxi-scooter segment gains traction in the coming days.
