Kawasaki has teased the 2022 Ninja 400 for the Indian markets, on its social media. The Euro-5 compliant supersport was launched in the European markets earlier this month.
When it comes to design, the 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 will retain the same aggressive styling with clean and sharp edges. The updated model, in the European markets, is available in green and ebony, and carbon and matte grey colour options; we can expect the same here.
With the 2022 update, the Ninja 400’s 399cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine will be BS-6 compliant. And it will produce the same 45PS at 10,000rpm as its predecessor; however, the torque is 1Nm lower, clocking in at 37Nm. Just like before it will come paired to a six-speed gearbox along with a slip and assist clutch. Kawasaki claims that for effortless gear shifts, the Ninja 400 gets a 20 percent lighter lever action.
Underpinned by the same tubular trellis chassis as the previous model, the 2022 Ninja 400 gets a telescopic fork and monoshock (or Uni-Trak, as Kawasaki calls it) with preload adjustability. For braking, the supersport uses a single 310mm petal disc up front and a 220mm petal disc at the rear. It tips the scales at 168kg kerb weight, the same as before, making it one of the lightest supersports.
The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is expected to launch in India next month (July 2022). It is likely to command a premium of Rs 25,000 over its predecessor, which was discontinued in India in December 2019, and is likely to be priced at Rs 5.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
As a mid-displacement supersport, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 will directly rival the 2022 KTM RC 390. Other smaller displacement alternatives include the TVS Apache RR 310 and the upcoming BMW G 310 RR.
