Kawasaki has re-introduced the base model of the Versys 1000, which will sit below the S and SE variants, for 2022. The standard Versys 1000 was a part of Kawasaki’s portfolio for almost a decade, before it was recently replaced with the better-specced Versys 1000 S and SE variants to keep up with the times.
Being the entry-level model, the standard Versys 1000 misses out on goodies like cornering lights, a TFT dash, riding modes, special paint schemes, and electronic suspension--all features that are available on the S and SE models. However, it does retain cornering ABS, traction control, and cruise control along with full-LED lighting.
The absence of the extra goodies has also resulted in a 2kg reduction, with the ready-to-ride weight listed at 253kg. This is still quite hefty, though, considering the better-equipped Ducati Multistrada V4 tips the scale at 242kg.
Coming to the other two variants, the S and SE remain unchanged for 2022. Both continue to boast of a TFT instrument cluster, riding modes, a bi-directional quickshifter, and fairing-mounted LED cornering lights, in addition to the standard kit. Meanwhile, if you opt for the SE variant, you also get Showa’s Skyhook electronically adjustable suspension, the same units that you’d find on the large Multi.
Common between all three variants is the 1043cc inline-four engine putting out 120PS and 102Nm while being mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The 2022 Versys 1000, Versys 1000 S, and the Versys 1000 SE are priced at Rs 9 lakh, Rs 11.31 lakh, and Rs 12.95 lakh (converted from Euros), respectively, in the United Kingdom. Judging from this, the re-introduction of the base model of the Versys makes complete sense for people with budget constraints looking for a big ADV.
We expect Kawasaki to introduce the 2022 Versys 1000 in India next year. The S and SE variants could also make their way here.
