Mahindra recently gave us our first glimpse at the next-generation Scorpio (codenamed the Z101), and now we’ve gotten more dope on the upcoming SUV thanks to a new teaser video. The new Scorpio has been spotted testing for months and is slated to make its debut in June.
While the teaser video cleverly hides some juicy bits, they’ve managed to give enough breadcrumbs to dissect. For starters, we’ve got the traditional seven-slate grille taking up frontal real estate. But you’ll notice a little bit of XUV700 inspiration as they’ve gotten a splash of chrome. Elsewhere, we can spot new dual-beam LED projector headlights, as well as C-shaped LED DRLs surrounding the fog lamp housing.
The addition of bling doesn’t stop there, as it is present on the window sills and rear bumper with silver inserts on the side skirts. While the tail lamp is hidden in the teaser, we already know how it’ll look as it is already available in Delhi’s Karol Bagh market. Moreover, new dual-tone alloy wheels make up the changes seen in the teaser video.
Earlier cabin spy shots reveal a minimalistic dashboard in black/brown. While the new Scorpio is slated to be offered in either 6- or 7-seater options, the boot space seems good enough only for a couple of soft bags with all the three rows in place.
New features will include roof-mounted speakers, connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a single-pane sunroof. Other highlights should include multiple airbags, a 360–degree camera, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, auto headlights and wipers, as well as electronic stability control.
Powering the new Scorpio will be the 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines in a different state of tune than the XUV700 and Thar. A 6-speed manual should be standard, with the choice of an automatic transmission as well. Rear-wheel and all-wheel drive (with low range) guises should also be on offer.
Expect the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio to retail at prices starting from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll be a rugged alternative to the likes of the the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, and MG Astor.
